An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away: How Apples Can Help Lower Cholesterol

Can it really be true? Can an apple a day really keep the doctor away? So it seems. Recent studies have found that
apples are not only a great source of vitamins and antioxidants, but have specific health benefits as well. Besides being a great food for weight loss, apples can help reduce the risk of prostate cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer. Even more impressive, is the amazing results that eating apples can have in lowering cholesterol and regulating blood pressure.
We all know that a good cholesterol diet includes foods high in fiber and low in fat. This promotes cardiovascular health, lowers cholesterol, and promotes healthy weight loss. A cholesterol diet shouldn’t just be about cutting out the bad foods, it should be full of delicious, heart healthy alternatives. Apples, in any form: raw, cooked, juice, etc, contain antioxidants that fight bad cholesterol and improve immune system functioning. They also contain pectin, a soluble fiber, which helps lower cholesterol and keeps your intestines healthy at the same time.
While we would all like to say that keeping to a heart-healthy diet is as easy as it sounds, let’s be honest. Everybody finds themselves eating something they shouldn’t eat from time to time. While this may not erase the ill effects of your indulgence, research has shown that it is helpful to eat an apple or drink apple juice after eating fatty foods. It certainly can’t hurt…
