<p>There are certain things you can look for in your takeout food. Keep an eye on the portion size. Stay away from all-you-can-eat <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffet">buffets</a>. These are not a good idea, because you will eat more in order to get your money&#8217;s worth, and end up eating much more than you should. Never supersize your portion, and try and substitute a salad for the fries that probably come with the meal. If the portions are big, and you don’t have a choice but to order a whole one, ask the restaurant to pack half of the food for you at the end of the meal, and take it home. That way you get two meals for the price of one, and you won&#8217;t end up overeating just because you paid for it.</p>
<p>Check the menu carefully when you order. Pay attention to how the food is cooked. Don&#8217;t go for fried foods, or anything breaded or cooked in a creamy sauce. They may sound like the best things on the menu, but you&#8217;ll regret it the next day when your diet has taken a step backwards. Check what sauces or dressings are used for your order. It could be that these dressings would be healthy in small amounts but in the amount they will give you in the restaurant they are going to derail your diet. Ask for the sauce or dressing on the side, so that you can add as much as you want and no more.</p>

<li> Don&#8217;t go back for seconds…or thirds or fourths or fifths. Take however much food you think is an appropriate amount and then stay with that. Just because there&#8217;s more in the pot doesn&#8217;t mean you need to eat it all now. If you&#8217;re still hungry (for real!) in an hour, then you can go back for more.</li>
<li> You don&#8217;t have to agree with restaurant portions. Restaurants tend to overdo it with their portion sizes. I&#8217;ve been to restaurants where a cut of meat is really about three serving sizes and the French fries are enough to serve a table of four. When you order a huge plate of food, go into the meal with the mindset that you&#8217;ll be taking a lot of the food on your plate home for another meal. You&#8217;ll save <a href="http://www.calorieking.com/foods/" target="_blank">calories</a> this way…and money!</li>
<li> Eat slowly. You&#8217;re body needs time to register the fact that you&#8217;re eating. The slower you eat, the more of a chance you&#8217;ll be giving your body to make that observation. You&#8217;ll notice that you&#8217;re full BEFORE you&#8217;ve eaten six portions of food, rather than scarfing down a ton of food quickly, and only then noticing your belly ache.</li>
