How to Choose Healthy Takeout Food
June 29, 2010
Takeout food is so much easier than making your own. Especially when it comes to work lunches and those lazy Sundays. But how do you make sure that your takeout food isn’t going to ruin your diet and make you put on weight?
There are certain things you can look for in your takeout food. Keep an eye on the portion size. Stay away from all-you-can-eat buffets. These are not a good idea, because you will eat more in order to get your money’s worth, and end up eating much more than you should. Never supersize your portion, and try and substitute a salad for the fries that probably come with the meal. If the portions are big, and you don’t have a choice but to order a whole one, ask the restaurant to pack half of the food for you at the end of the meal, and take it home. That way you get two meals for the price of one, and you won’t end up overeating just because you paid for it.
Check the menu carefully when you order. Pay attention to how the food is cooked. Don’t go for fried foods, or anything breaded or cooked in a creamy sauce. They may sound like the best things on the menu, but you’ll regret it the next day when your diet has taken a step backwards. Check what sauces or dressings are used for your order. It could be that these dressings would be healthy in small amounts but in the amount they will give you in the restaurant they are going to derail your diet. Ask for the sauce or dressing on the side, so that you can add as much as you want and no more.
The simplest solution when it comes to eating out or getting take out is to minimize it completely and take diet pills too. By cooking at home you can save yourself money and have complete control over what you are putting in your system. Try and keep restaurants for special occasions only.
