Dr Phil Diet

Get Real! That's the advice Dr Phil gives viewers of the incredibly successful Dr Phil television show, screened coast to coast most days of the week. The Dr Phil show has dealt with many thorny issues, but one of Dr Phil's biggest successes must be his diet

The diet Dr Phil recommends is really not too radical, and is based on well known medical advice available from many sources.

The difference in the Dr Phil diet is the psychological aspect, an issue on which he can speak with rather more expertise than on actual dieting. This doesn't really matter, of course, since the diet isn't the problem, according to Dr Phil.

Dieters wanting to benefit from Dr Phil advice tune in regularly to his weight loss specials, and now the new Dr Phil books available develop the themes outlined in the shows.

The best known Dr Phil book, "The Ultimate Weight Solution", stresses the importance of psychological factors, and presents seven issues which can often make the difference between success and failure.

These are;
-Right Thinking- by this he means basically being positive

-Healing Feelings- if you binge because of feeling bad, you need to address this first

-A No Fail Environment- get rid of the biscuits!

-Mastery Over Impulse Eating-learn to just say no!

-Eat High Value Snacks- the well known strategy of keeping blood sugar even

-Exercise-nuff said

-Support-as we all know, there is a big difference between going it alone and having a shoulder to cry on!

Other Dr Phil books include a cookbook, bringing quite a few sensible, nutritious recipes, and a food guide, meant to give a bit more nutrition advice for the serious dieter who wants more information.
Jay McGraw, Dr Phil's son, a budding diet guru in himself, deals with the teenage audience, with The Ultimate Weight Solution For Teens.

But what exactly does the diet consist of? Well, this isn't a low-carb or high protein diet, no food groups are restricted and there is no calorie counting.

The approach is really more behavioural, with the emphasis being on starting from the process of buying food, and leading through naturally to healthy eating.
Dr Phil recommends shopping selectively, and cutting out the habits that tend to cause diets to fail. If there are no temptations in the home, this will naturally contribute a push to flagging will power.

In addition, he recommends eating often in order to keep blood sugar stable, and says that flavor is important, because it satisfies basic psychological urges.

The Dr Phil books seem to fill a real need for a more holistic approach to dieting, as many people who have tried lots of different diets decide that something is missing.

The diet Dr Phil suggests isn't new, but the approach is, with dieting being almost a secondary aspect of the plan, which concentrates on removing the psychological blocks to successful weight loss.

All the Dr Phil books start by trying to strengthen resolve to diet, and give advice meant to help dieters identify their own personal obstacles to losing weight.

Since the diet Dr Phil recommends is also recommended by all good nutrition experts, and since Dr Phil recommends regular exercise, his weight loss program has to be a good choice, especially for those who feel that psychological factors may be important in preventing them lose weight.
