Seven Reasons Why You Should Eat Fish
November 12, 2009
1. It's good for your heart. Fish is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, the newly discovered miracle nutrient. Consuming just one portion of omega-3-rich fish once a week reduces your chances of heart attack by 50%; imagine if you ate the suggested three portions a day! It can even help lower cholesterol.
2. It'll reduce inflammation. The omega-3 found in fish will not only help your heart, but will help reduce inflammation in your entire body. That means that if you eat more fish, you'll get to cut back costs on ibuprofen!
3. Fish will help prevent diabetes. People who eat fish reduce their risk for getting type 2 diabetes. By reducing inflammation, you're reducing a rise in blood sugar, and therefore, reducing your risk of diabetes.
4. Fish will help prevent cancer. Just add cancer to the list of serious diseases and illnesses that eating fish will help you prevent. Omega-3 will help your cells regenerate at a healthy rate and in a healthy manner. Cancer is caused when this regeneration process gets stunted or goes out of control. Chronic inflammation (which can be reduced by eating fish) can lead to cervical caner, ulcers, and colon cancer.
5. Fish=protein. And protein=health. Few people consume enough protein throughout their day. You should have a healthy portion of protein at every meal during the day. Add fish to your diet and you'll boost your protein intake.
6. Fish is low fat. Trying to lose weight? Switch from red meat to a lean white fish and you'll cut more than 100 calories per serving and at least 10 grams of fat. Consider fish your new all-natural diet pill!
7. It's tasty! Some fishes have an actual fish flavor (like salmon), but some white fishes will pretty much soak up whatever flavors you prepare it with? Sometimes all you may want is a sprinkle of salt, or you way go all out for a sesame teriyaki fillet-whatever tempts your taste buds.
